TV Viewing Summary – W/E 17/11/96

No real change in the top programmes of the week with Coronation Street maintaining its first place and taking second. Wednesday episode achieved 18.26 million viewers, with Mondays gaining 17.59 million, helped along this week by the departure of long-standing character Raquel leaving devastated husband Curly.

ITV’s dramas continue to gain larger audiences than the BBC, despite the return of the series Crocodile Shoes. The first episode of the new series shown on BBC 1 (Thursday 22.05) only achieved an audience of 7.61 million. This leaves the BBC’s only real contenders in this field as Casualty (13.86 million) and Dangerfield (9.08 million) to stand against ITV’s London’s Burning (14.41 million), and Heartbeat (14.37).

The BBC had more success this week with light entertainment, in particular Ruby Wax Meets The Duchess Of York achieving an audience of 12.56 million, and the National Lottery Live continuing to do better than some weeks, with 13.18 million viewers.
