Sky Sports first live premiership match of the season, which featured the debut of Italian star Gianluca Vialli for Chelsea against Southampton, attracted an audience of 1.11 million people. This is slightly higher than the opening match of last season between Arsenal versus Middlesborough which attracted 1.06 million viewers.
Average television viewing for the week ending August 18th 1996 for all individuals has fallen by 0.16 % when compared to the same week . In Astra Panel homes viewing of all channels has risen by 1.7% in comparision to last year’s figure.
