TV Viewing Summary W/E 25/07/99
This week was a good week for documentary programmes, with six of the genre hitting the top thirty list. The most popular of the week was Richard Madley’s Eye of the Storm which attracted 8.44 million viewers, up from 6.46 million the previous week. The second most watched documentary was ITV’s Traffic Jams From Hell, screened as part of the network’s week-long look at the state of transport in Britain, which attracted 8.38 million viewers.
ITV’s long running light entertainment programmem, Des O’Connor Tonight, continues to improve its weekly audience total. The week’s edition was watched by 6.54 million and a consolidated share of viewing of 35%, which comfortably beat all other stations in the 8 to 9 o’clock timeslot for Friday night.
There is no change at the top of the programme list with the soaps proving to be the number one choice for viewers. The top programme of the week was Monday’s episode of Coronation Street, which had an audience of 15.05 million viewers.
