TV Viewing Summary W/E 26/01/97
With the exception of Casualty the top ten this week is dominated by soaps. Emmerdale in particular, following extra publicity and a spicing up of storylines has improved its ratings and is now attracting an extra million or so viewers for each of its episodes. Sundays episode of Coronation Street has at last begun to pick up in the ratings, almost making an improvement of around half a million on last weeks episode.
The popularity of The Bill seems to be falling slightly over the weeks with the highest achieving episode this week being Fridays gaining 12.54 million compared to 14.15 million in the previous week. Peak Practice, London’s Burning, and The Wingless Bird however all continue to make slight gains on their previous weeks totals.
Channel four again this week broke its highest audience of the year so far figure. Mondays Cutting Edge which lead an investigation into the RAF Chinook helicopter crash of 1994 achieved an audience of 5.20 million beating the 5.10 million held by the pilot episode of Dark Skies which has been pushed into second place this week (4.49 million) in the channels own top ten.
