TV Viewing Summary – W/E 27/07/97

This week’s top programme lists showed that there is still no change at the top of the overall top thirty programme list and Channel 4’s top ten list. Monday’s edition of Coronation Street, with the continuing storyline regarding the Fiona Middleton love triangle between Steve, Jim and Alan (or should that be love square), attracted an audience of 14.33 million. Imported American sitcom Friends was watched by 5.15 million viewers, easily beating its nearest rival.
Channel 5 programmes continue to struggle past the one million viewer point with only the film Murder C.O.D. and the Umbro Cup Final hitting that mark (1.28 million and 1.00 million respectively).
Television viewing of all stations by the whole population fell by 7.79% in comparison to the last year’s figures from 23 hours and 45 minutes to 21 hours and 54 minutes.
