TV Viewing Summary W/E 30/05/99
The great and the bad descended to Israel to take part in the annual cheesefest that is The Eurovision Song Contest. The event, which this year saw a great deal of political voting from participating countries, managed to pull in an average audience of 8.9 million and a peak of 12.0 million.
The movie premiere of Money Train, starring Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson, has given Channel 5 its third highest audience of the year with 3.1 million viewers. The C5 films Broken Arrow and Marked for Death were the only other programmes to gain larger audiences with 3.6 and 3.2 million respectively.
The one-off special, When Athletes Attack, shown on ITV after Man United’s jammy European Cup win managed to do what several News at Ten replacement programmes haven’t, namely attract viewers. The show, presented by Steve Penk, was watched by 7.5 million people; this is one of the highest viewing figures in the 10-11pm time slot since the demise of the flagship news programme.
