Two Thirds Like To Read A Local Paper; For Nationals Price/Supps Not Important
Newspapers are still a major part of daily life according to Keynote’s latest survey, commissioned by Gallup, both nationals and regionals. Two thirds said that they liked to read their local paper, and more than half of over 1,000 people questioned said that they buy the same paper every day.
Reasons for choosing a newspaper revealed that accurate and thorough reporting was the most important criterion for 34%. Next on the list came TV and radio listings, with 30% saying they were important. Sports coverage was important for 27%, while 24% said that they chose their newspaper for the features. Political leanings influenced 18%, while just 16% said price was an important consideration. Only 12% picked their newspaper for its supplements.
Consumer magazines fared less well, with just 13% saying they read consumer magazines once a week. 23% thought that women’s magazines were too similar in style to each other.
