Tyson-Holyfield Overnights
According to initial forecasts the Tyson-Holyfield boxing match, shown in the early hour of Sunday morning, attracted an estimated 420,000 pay-per-view customers. The figures are being seen as proof that there is a future for pay-per-view in the UK as there had been criticism that viewers would be unwilling to pay twice for top sporting events.
Around 300,000 people paid the standard £9.95 to be able to watch the boxing match, with the rest paying £14.95 premium rate for bookings made after midnight on Friday November 8th. This compares to the 660,000 viewers who paid to watch the Tyson versus Bruno in March of this year. Sky Sports will get around £5m from the weekend boxing event which included five other boxing matches
Sky is expected to announce other pay-per-view events, concentrating on boxing and other sporting events.
