UBC Media, the UK’s largest independent radio production company has said, the outlook for this year is ‘positive’ and the market in which it operates continues to ‘meet expectations’.
In a trading update, which backed up the chairman’s July AGM speech, the group said, “The prospects for the markets in which UBC Media Group operates continue to meet expectations. Revenues in the commercial division continue to perform particularly strongly with like-for-like revenues up 23% year-on-year and we believe the outlook for the remainder of the year is positive.”
Since the chairman’s announcements, two major developments have occurred at UBC Media. In August the group acquired the largest regional independent radio production company, Smooth Operations. During this month, it also consolidated its traffic and travel airtime with Emap and both of these moves are expected to have a positive impact on the future performance of the group.
Last month UBC Media announced details of a development agreement with Channel 4 to create a new national radio station from the company’s existing Oneword digital offering. The initiative is believed to be the brainchild of Channel 4’s recently appointed chairman, Luke Johnson, who is attempting to diversify the broadcaster’s revenue in the face of increasing competition from new digital channels entering the market (see UBC Announces Plans For Radio With Channel 4).
