UK: Birmingham Audiovisual Conference

At the recent European Audiovisual Conference in Birmingham, UK, delegates heard broadcasting industry executives call upon the EU’s political leadership to accelerate the move from analogue to digital broadcasting. The Association of Commercial Television (ACT) issued a statement warning that the convergence of various forms of electronic media requires an urgent and thorough overhaul of the current regulatory framework within the EU, in order that public service broadcasters can have a much clearer definition of what their role should be. ACT also called for the creation of market-based mechanisms to improve the distribution of audiovisual works within the EU.
