UK Inflation Falls Slightly During August

The underlying annual rate of inflation in the UK fell by 0.1 percentage points to 1.9% during August, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which indicate that interest rates could remain unchanged.

The headline rate of inflation, which includes mortgage interest payments, also fell by 0.1 percentage points to 1.4%. It is understood that the price of clothes and shoes were the main reason for the slide in inflation.

The Retail Prices Index for August was 175.3.
