The underlying level of inflation has fallen to its lowest level since records began, according to the Office Of National Statistics (ONS). The latest figures from the ONS show that the underlying rate of inflation dropped to 1.5% in June, down from 1.8% last month.
The drop is thought to reflect lower prices for petrol, clothing, footwear and seasonal food. The headline rate of inflation for June was 1.0%.
The Retail Prices Index was 176.2.
