UK: New body emerges
A new control authority has been born: the Broadcasting Standards Commission will replace the Broadcasting Standards Council and the Broadcasting Complaints Commission, and will encompass both those bodies’ functions. The BSC is required to produce a code of good practice on fairness and privacy; it will publish regular monthly reports of decisions on complaints from May onwards. Any viewer or listener can make a complaint either about a programme or an advertisement. Complaints must be made in writing and need to be lodged within two months of a TV broadcast or three weeks in the case of radio.
