UKTV has confirmed that its new music and comedy channel, UK Play, will be launching on the Sky Digital platform on 10 October. It is expected that the channel will sign a carriage deal with On Digital, the digital terrestrial broadcaster.
UK Play will target a 16-24 year old audience with a mix of original and repeat programming. Jayne Middlemiss will present an extended version of The Ozone and there will be an extended version of Top Of The Pops, called TOTP 2, which features behind the scenes footage along with archive material from the show.
The channel has also produced an original show, Freestyle, that will be a mix of R’n’B rap and comedy.
UKTV is a joint venture between the BBC and Flextech which can draw from the BBC’s extensive archives of material.
