UK To Get First Interactive Betting Service

The UK is to receive its first interactive pools betting service next month when Two Way TV and Ladbrokes team up to launch Matchball. The service will be marketed under the Vernons Pools brand and launches on 8 April.

Interactive TV services company, Two Way TV, will initially offer Matchball to digital cable television viewers, firstly through Cable & Wireless Communications’ (CWC) digital platform. CWC currently has almost 80,000 digital customers and is leading the way in the development of the cable digital market. Telewest Communications’ Active Digital service is gradually being rolled out and Matchball will be available later in the year.

Commenting on the launch, Two Way TV UK managing director, Matthew Tims, says: “The pools is a great British institution and Vernons is a well-known and trusted brand. The convenience of in-home betting will open up Vernons Pools and future betting applications to higher levels of popularity by capturing a broad, new audience of sports fans.”
