UK’s Longest Static Ad Unveiled By American Airlines

BMP DDP and Viacom Outdoor have worked together to produce the UK’s longest static advert, in the newly refurbished Trav-o-lator tunnel at Bank Tube station in London. The ad, unveiled today, sees American Airlines return to using the location, this time for 18 months.
The tunnel design features the 50 states of America, while highlighting the “states” promoted by the airline, such as “the friendly state” and “the entertainment state”. The creative runs over a length of 87.5m in the tunnel which at peak time has 130 commuters using it per minute.
It has been calculated that the average commuter will be exposed to the advert for over 30 hours during the next 18 months, based on an average journey through the tunnel of 2 and a half minutes, twice a day, five days per week.
Dennis Cary, managing director of sales and marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa at American Airlines, commented: “It is not very often in the marketing world that a company can capture the attention of an individual for nearly three minutes, and on a regular basis. This is a rare opportunity, which we found from our first campaign to prove extremely successful in terms of raising our profile and encouraging more people to consider flying with us on business and pleasure.”
