UKTV Offers Three New Channels
The fifteen year deal struck between the BBC and Flextech in March (subscribers see Flextech And The BBC Finally Shake Hands) has produced UKTV, a network of channels which is set to launch on Saturday 1 November.
The new station is set to broadcast a revamped UK Gold along with three new channels. UK Horizons plans to bring viewers the best of the BBC’s factual programming from natural history, science, technology, travel and adventure. The channel will include David Attenborough’s Life In The Freezer, Pole To Pole and Modern Times. UK Style is dubbed as a leisure and lifestyle channel and will feature programmes on cooking, antiques, gardening and travel. UK Arena, an arts and entertainment channel, covers popular arts, drama and music. Programmmes on Arena will include BBC recent adaptations of Jane Austen, Dennis Potter plays and a number of music shows such as Later With Jools. The channel also features a review of what’s happening in the world of arts and entertainment, examining new music, books, films, plays and so on.
All four channels make extensive use of the BBC’s archived material with a small amount of new programming. They will be broadcast on cable and satellite. UK Style, UK Horizons and UK Arena all launch on 1 November at around six o’clock.
