UKTV set to introduce ads within online applications

UKTV Logo UKTV is set to introduce advertising within its online applications in a bid to create new revenue streams.

The joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Virgin Media plans to create sponsorship opportunities around applications, to give advertisers the chance to target audiences on sites such as Dave, Watch and G.O.L.D.

UKTV has already rolled out ten interactive applications, including an argument generator to promote the new comedy show Argumental on Dave.

IDS, Virgin Media’s online ad sales house, is expected to sell the ads across UKTV’s applications.

Phil Townend, associate director of digital advertising at IDS, said: “We’ll focus more on sponsorships, so a brand would own the application for a period of time. This was brands can form clear relationships with users.

“It’s a great potential revenue stream. Not only does it bring monetisation but gives brands something more than standard display advertising,” he added.
