Ulster TV Acquires DNA As Pre-tax Profit Slumps
Ulster TV announced today the acquisition of Direct Net Access (DNA), Northern Ireland’s leading internet service company, for £4.25m. The deal was unveiled as the group reported a 37% decrease in its pre-tax profit, which fell to £7.8m, in its annual results.
Operating profit for the year, however, saw a rise of 43% to £11.9m, and turnover grew 3.2% to £38.3 million during the period. The dip in profits was explained by the payment of a special dividend in April last year and the group was optimistic about the future.
John McCann, managing director of the group, said: “Taking a big step into cyberspace is a natural move for UTV. The merger of Northern Ireland’s biggest media player with the fastest growing media force will ensure that we continue to enhance the service we provide our viewers.”
