Digital content ownership ecosystem UltraViolet is set to receive a boost to its adoption in the UK, according to research specialist YouGov.
Advanced Television reports that during a London briefing on content on demand, YouGov’s associate director for media consulting, Shaun Austin, suggested that Tesco was ‘well placed’ to benefit from content consumption trends and that its Blinkbox service could be ‘instrumental’ in driving the take-up of UltraViolet.
UltraViolet is a digital rights authentication and cloud-based distribution system that allows consumers of digital home entertainment content to stream and download purchased content via multiple platforms and devices.
During the briefing, Austin reported that 12% of respondents surveyed prior to the briefing admitted that they were likely to use UltraViolet after their next Blu-ray or DVD purchase, while 22% who had not already used UltraViolet said it was likely that they would in the future, and 55% that had used it before said that they were now likely to do so again.
Austin said that with Blu-rays and DVDs featuring an UltraViolet sticker in Tesco stores, UltraViolet awareness is set to grow.
