United News & Media Acquires US Technology Group In £575m Deal

United News & Media has snapped up leading US technology media group CMP for £575 million in a bid to create a leading business information service in North America. The companies said in a joint statement that they had signed an agreement for UNM to buy CMP for £24.60 a share.

The deal will combine CMP’s vast internet and publishing operations with United’s subsidiary Miller Freeman – a technical magazine publisher and the world’s largest trade show organiser.

Clive Hollick, UNM’s chief executive, said: “The acquisition of CMP is a major step in United’s strategy of establishing leading positions in fast growing business-to-business markets. CMP provides Miller Freeman with an ideal platform for the development of new products and publications in the US.”
