United News & Media plc have today announced that they are selling their 15 Welsh newspaper titles, which include South Wales Argus , to Southern Newspapers for £31.5 million. The proceeds from the sale will be used to reduce group debts.
As part of United’s review of operations following the merger with MAI, the decision was taken to concentrate future development of its regional newspaper business in its core regions of Yorkshire and the North West of England.
Discussions regarding the sale of UPN South East are still proceeding.
