United Sees Profits Rise 21.5%

United News & Media this morning announced interim financial results which reveal profit before tax reached £151.9m, up 21.5%. Turnover also improved, increasing from £906m to just over £1 billion.

In terms of United’s broadcasting interests strong performances by Anglia and Meridian helped lift the division’s profits by 75% and encouraging growth was also reported at United’s TV production business, with increased orders from ITV and new commissions from Channel 5.

Figures for the ailing Express newspapers were absent from the financial report, though United state that the reorganisation of the national titles should release funds to help in their “revitalisation”.
