UNM Joins Digital Bid

United News & Media has confirmed that it has entered into a conditional agreement to join NTL’s Digital Television Network project.

UNM will invest up to £120m in 30% of DTN if the terrestrial digital TV bid is accepted by the ITC over the rival British Digital Broadcasting consortium. Roger Loughton, chief of UNM’s Broadcasting and Entertainment division, commented on the DTN proposal: “It contains a range of exciting and innovative proposals increasing the services available to consumers and viewers in their home. It is also a bid which, if successful, will offer the prospect of serious competition in the important digital TV market.”

The ITC is remaining tight-lipped over when the winner of the digital terrestrial TV licence will be announced .
