United Provincial Newspapers has sold Ashton Weekly Newspapers, the Manchester-based regional newspaper publishers, to a management buy-in team. This will create a new publisher called Reporter & Chronicle Newspapers.
The main title involved in the sale is The Ashton Reporter, a paid-for title with nine local editions covering Tameside to the east of Manchester. It currently has a weekly circulation of 21,000.
UPN says that it wants to focus on its “core areas” in Lancashire and Yorkshire.
