UPN Titles Up For Sale – Again
United News & Media has received a number of offers for its regional newspaper business, United Provincial Newspapers, which it is looking to sell for the second time in just over a year (subscribers see Significant Interest In UPN Titles).
It is thought that the titles, which were taken off the market last year after no buyers were found, would have a price tag of around £40 million. Interested parties are believed to include Newsquest, Trinity, Johnston and Northcliffe.
Any disposal of the UPN business, which includes the Yorkshire Post , represents United News & Media’s wish to move away from the regional press to concentrate on its growing television interests. In October last year United sold the Welsh division of UPN to Southern Newspapers for £31.5m (subscribers see United News & Media Sell Welsh Titles).
