Valentine’s Texts Boost February SMS Total
![]()
The 57 million Valentines Day text messages sent meant that the average number of messages sent on any one day in the month was 44 million, compared with 28.8 million in the same month in 2001.
New figures from the Mobile Data Association show that 1.2 billion text messages were sent person to person in the UK during the month. This was only slightly behind the total for January, which was boosted by a surge on New Year’s Eve (see January Text Message Total Reaches Record High).
The MDA predicts that, given the pattern of year on year growth, the number of text messages sent per day in the UK could exceed 60 million by the end of this year.
