Van Wagner UK Names Schaps As New Chief Executive

Van Wagner UK has appointed Jordan Schaps to the role of chief executive officer with responsibility for leading the expansion of the outdoor contractor’s business across the country.

Schaps, son of the company’s world-wide chief executive, replaces the outgoing Charles B Hamlin, who recently returned to the United States to take the leadership of newly acquired Van Wagner company.

Schaps has been working in Van Wagner’s London office for last eighteen months with responsibility for managing the company’s Network Rail contract, which was secured last year following a three-way pitch against Maiden Outdoor and JCDecaux (see Van Wagner Secures 15-Year Deal With Network Rail).

Commenting on the appointment, Van Wagner’s worldwide chief executive, Richard Schaps, said: “Van Wagner UK has grown from a start-up in 2000 to become the UK’s leading provider of premium outdoor advertising. I look to Jordan to manage our continued growth through the provision high-value advertising venues in London and throughout the UK.”

The company is currently looking to expand outside of London to focus on a number of key regional markets such as Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow and Edinburgh. These regional operations would initially be run from the London office, with the possibility of local offices in the future.

Schaps said: “We will continue exploit the niche market providing premier outdoor advertising locations both in London. We are also looking to get a foothold in some other major cities outside the capital and are looking to expand throughout the UK.”

The latest figures from the Outdoor Advertising Association show that the industry has been performing well recently with revenue increased by 6.6% year on year to more than £195 million in the three months to September 2003 (see JCDecaux Rolls Out Smart Sites For Daimler Chrysler).
