Vegetarian Ad Campaign Banned

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned the repetition of a press campaign by the Vegetarian Society linking eating meat to a higher risk of cancer, saying it was distressing, shocking and misleading.

It said that the ad wrongly implied that “a causal link between the consumption of meat and the incidence of cancer was universally accepted.” The ASA also said that the Society should check with the Copy Advice team that future claims were accurate before they made them.
