Viacom Outdoor will change its name to CBS Outdoor in the New Year, in a move to make the brand consistent across the globe.
Advertising panels across Europe and China will begin replacing the Viacom Outdoor name with CBS Outdoor on 1 January 2007.
“We do business with advertising clients and media groups that conduct business around the world so it’s important that our brand remain consistent across all borders,” said Leslie Moonves, president and chief executive officer of CBS Corporation.
“As one of the fastest growing assets in our portfolio, Outdoor is the perfect vehicle to enhance CBS’s global brand.”
Viacom Outdoor International CEO, Tom Goddard, added: “We are delighted to be a part of the CBS brand. CBS’s 80-year history of leadership in US media is an asset we believe we can leverage internationally with great success.”
In the UK, CBS Outdoor sells advertising on buses, trams, and national rail media and the London Underground, for which it recently won an eight-and-a-half year contract (see Viacom Clinches Tube Contract). In June, the company said that the renewal of the contract would ignite a digital revolution in Outdoor advertising (see Viacom Tube Contract To Lead Digital Ad Revolution).
