Video On Demand Tests
Oracle, the US software company, announced yesterday that it is planning to launch limited trials of its video-on-demand system, Media Server, in the Ipswich area in the spring, through BT’s existing telephone lines.
Oracle’s Media Server can offer a choice of 1,700 videos. Oracle said that if 1m homes were connected, the cost of the system, including the black box in the home necessary to convert the signal, would be £50 per year for each home. This system could also run other services, such as home shopping, home banking or storing a week’s television.
