Video Networks, the company behind London’s HomeChoice broadband subscription TV channel, has secured the rights to 106 Premier League matches in a deal thought to be worth £20m.
The three year agreement allows Video Networks to show Premier League games on its HomeChoice video-on-demand service just 24 hours after they have been televised live.
Viewers will be able to choose and instantly view games via their remote control. They will also be able to pause and rewind action and replay games on demand.
Chief executive of Videonet, Simon Hochhauser, said: “Football has a massive appeal and this agreement represents a major vote of confidence for Videonet and our HomeChoice video-on-demand service. Premier league matches, together with our movies, TV programmes and music videos make HomeChoice the biggest on-demand TV service in the world.”
Premier League chief executive, Richard Scudamore, added: “The Premier League recognises the importance of new media developments making this a very significant deal which will add a new dimension to our other rights agreements to match broadcasts.”
As part of the deal Videonet has also acquired video-on-demand access to the Premier League archive for the previous nine yeas. Games will be delivered to HomeChoice’s 2.4 million subscribers via BT’s broadband network.
