Carlton Television’s music show Videotech is to be broadcast on the Internet and ITV simultaneously on Thursday 27 November at 10.40pm. The hour-long event is to be used as a test case for the problems of issuing rights licences for webcasts on the Internet. The Performing Rights Society (PRS) and the Music Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) are forming an alliance to look at different ways of ensuring loyalties from such webcasts which they see as becoming a widely-used method of accessing artists’ repertoires.
Official artists’ sites and newsgroups will be linked to the Videotech site as well as exclusive interview footage. The webcast can be seen at http://videotech.carltontv.co.uk/.
