It has emerged that cable operator Videotron will not be screening the Bruno Tyson fight live. The main reason is that Sky did not give Videotron enough notice that the fight was taking place on a pay-per-view basis, and so the technology to make the broadcast possible was not available.
This technology is also expensive to implement and it is not known whether this event is a one-off or the start of a regular service. Videotron is also concerned with the hostile reaction to pay-per-view TV and will ‘be monitoring closely the interest in this event.’
In future Videotron will offer their customers pay-per-view events if BSkyB confirm that there will be a series of such events and if it is established that a significant number of subscribers want the service.
