Online video platform Vimeo has launched a video on demand service for all of its PRO members (a subscription for companies and professionals that want to use Vimeo for commercial use).
Vimeo on Demand will give creators of all kinds the opportunity to sell work directly to target audiences and retain a 90% share of revenue after transaction costs have been deducted.
It will also allow creators to choose price, country availability, customise page design and offer content on both Vimeo and personal websites.
Vimeo reaches 93 million users per month across a number of platforms – including desktop, mobile, and connected and smart TVs – giving creators a huge reach across the globe.
“Vimeo is committed to empowering creators with tools to display and distribute their work in beautiful HD quality,” said Vimeo CEO, Kerry Trainor. “With the addition of Vimeo On Demand, creators can now use Vimeo to control the way they earn revenue and retain a significant portion of the proceeds.”
Blake Whitman, vice president of Vimeo’s creative development added: “What used to be a confusing and labor-intensive process is now open and simple with Vimeo On Demand. We always strive to provide our community and visitors with the best experience possible, and this opens up a new world of viewable content and support for creators.
“We are proud of this first phase of Vimeo On Demand, and we’re already working on another suite of creator-focused features to release in the near future.”
Vimeo on Demand was launched at the SXSW Interactive and Film Festival on 12 March.
