Vine launches on Android

Micro video app Vine has been launched on Android after 13 million downloads of the iOS version.

Allowing users to film, share and watch short looping videos, Vine has been deemed a success since it launched earlier this year.

The Android version is largely the same as that for iOS, with a simple video creation tool with automatic playback and sound. However, the Android version also includes some unique features including zoom and “much improved” offline browsing.

Writing on her blog, Android engineer Sara Haider wrote: “Over the coming weeks, you’ll see frequent updates with new features – including front-facing camera, search, mentions and hashtags, and the ability to share to Facebook – as well as bug fixes and performance improvements.

“Of course, this is only the beginning – we have exciting plans for features that could exist only on Android.”
