Vintage TV, a new digital television channel, has signed a deal with Getty Images.

The agreement means that the channel can use some of Getty Images’ 360,000 still images and 8,000 hours of video content.

The digital television channel will use the Getty archive to make 500 new music videos. The channel is creating these for songs recorded before the video age, along with other original content.

Vintage TV founder and chief executive, David Pick, said: “This is a hugely exciting development for Vintage TV. The quality of content to be found in Getty Images archival collections is world-renowned.

“As such, Getty Images are the perfect partner as we gather momentum towards our launch. From a creative perspective, this arrangement will further enrich the consumer experience which we continue to build across five decades of popular music, culture, fashion and trends from the 1940s to the 1980s.”

The channel is launching on 1 September, initially on Sky and Freesat’s digital satellite services.

Vintage TV is dedicated to the “vintage age” of 1940s to the 1980s, with presenters including Tony Blackburn and Kim Wilde.

It will broadcast specially created videos for songs made before 1976, as well as concerts and documentaries.
