Virgin and Universal team up to launch movies-on-demand service

Virgin Media Logo Virgin Media and Universal Pictures have joined forces to launch a new movies-on-demand TV subscription service on Virgin’s TV platform.

PictureBox is set to launch next month to Virgin Media’s 3.6 million TV subscribers, costing £5 per month, and will provide access to a recent and archived feature films.

Viewers who subscribe to the new service will be able to select up to 28 films at a time, with seven new titles expected to be added every weekend, according to reports.

PictureBox, which is owned solely by Universal Pictures, will feature films such as Hot Fuzz and The Bourne Ultimatum as well as classics such as Scarface and E.T – The Extra Terrestrial.

Virgin Media claims over 50% of its TV customers are now regularly accessing on-demand content.
