Virgin Radio executive chairman Richard Huntingford is set to step down following the station’s £53.2 million sale to the Times of India Group.
Last year, Huntingford left his role as Chrysalis chief executive following the sale of its radio division to Global Radio (see Chrysalis Radio To Sell For £170 Million).
Virgin Radio released a statement saying: “Richard Huntingford is contracted as executive chairman of Virgin Radio until September 2008.
“He will remain with the company to ensure a smooth transition following completion of the sale of the business to TIML [Times Infotainment Media Limited] Radio and is currently considering future options.”
SMG sold Virgin Radio to TIML Golden Square, a subsidiary of Times of India Group, in a deal that will see the station lose the Virgin name, although it will continue in its present form until the autumn (see SMG Sells Virgin Radio For £53.2m).
Huntingford was appointed Chrysalis Radio chief executive in 1994 and became group chief executive in 2000, before taking a role as non-executive director of Virgin Mobile from 2005 to 2006.
