Virgin Radio’s Sales Director Departs After Two Years

Virgin Radio’s sales director, Mark Swift, has left the group after two years.

Swift, who was instrumental in the creation of the Access All Areas initiative for advertisers, will be replaced by commercial development director, Lee Roberts.

Roberts will report to commercial director, Kathryn Jacob, who said: “Having worked with Lee before I know that he will bring immense dedication and commitment to this role. He has a record in agency and client dealings is well known and I’m sure he can build on previous successes in sales at Virgin.”

Roberts has been with Virgin Radio since its launch in 1993 and has been working on all commercial matters in the licence application process.

His appointment follows the pre-Christmas promotion of Brian Commins to the role of promotions director. In his new role Commins will head up a team that covers new media and promotions to ensure that Virgin Radio continues to deliver effective cross-platform solutions for advertisers.

Meanwhile, enterprise director, Steve Taylor has been promoted to the role of station manager and Mark Bingham has been appointed assistant programme director.

Chief executive of Virgin Radio, John Pearson, commented: “We have slowly been rebuilding the station across the past year and these changes complete the team. We have put together an ambitious team ready to take the station forward and grow listenership and revenues in 2003.”

Virgin Radio recently secured The Times as the first ever sponsor of its daily sports bulletins. The deal covers the sports bulletins on Virgin’s Pete & Geoff Breakfast Show, the Daryl Denham Drivetime Show and the Saturday Virgin Radio Rock n’ Roll Football Show until June 2003 (see Flextech Boss Tipped To Succeed Airey At Channel Five).
