The Visit London tourist organisation has revealed plans to launch a commercially funded digital television channel on Sky to promote the various attractions of the nation’s capital city.
The London TV channel will be transmitted free-to-air from the start of the summer and will showcase theatre, shopping and tourist information about London. It will also seek to attract sponsorship revenue for some of its programming strands.
The tourist organisation has appointed Enteraction TV to run and produce the venture, which will broadcast around the clock seven days a week. The digital television company will also manage the channel’s transmission and distribution.
Commenting on the initiative, Mark Cullen, CEO of Enteraction TV, said: “We’re extremely pleased to be working with Visit London to launch what we believe will become the number one information and entertainment source about the capital. The channel will have something for all ages and interests and is aimed at both Londoners and visitors from around the UK and the rest of the world.”
Visit London’s chief executive, David Campbell, added: “We are aiming to create programming that is impactful, high quality and appropriate for the world’s greatest city. We want to produce ground breaking communications that will be of equal interest to Londoners and visitors. We’re not interested in producing one long corporate video for London.”
Claire Richmond has been appointed by Enteraction TV as director of programmes and will lead the channel’s twenty-strong production team. Richmond was formerly series producer of BBC’s “Changing Rooms”.
