Wallpaper* Appoints First Ever Marketing Manager

IPC’s flagship lifestyle magazine, Wallpaper*, has appointed Rowena Ratnam as its first ever marketing manager.

Ratnam joins Wallpaper* from a business development role at photographic agency Red Door. She previously spent six years as communications manager at Rodale, where she was responsible for PR and marketing for Men’s Health magazine.

The newly created role will see Ratnam take on responsibility for developing a range of expansion plans for the Wallpaper* brand. She will report directly to Richard Johnstone, publishing director at the magazine, who commented: “By upweighting our marketing expertise we will be able to support and expand the Wallpaper* brand more across 2004, which is set to be a very exciting year for us.”

Ratnam added: “It’s fantastic to be joining a magazine that I have enjoyed and admired for years, especially at such an exciting time. I can’t wait to get started.”

The latest ABC results for the six months ending June 2003 show that Wallpaper*,has seen its circulation decline by 15.4% year on year to 110,920, down from 131,075 in the same period in 2002.

However, the magazine recently underwent an extensive re-design, with a modern feel and new features, including a property section and unisex grooming pages (see Lifestyle Magazines Revamp In Bid To Put Out Trash).

The title is facing increasing competition in the already crowded lifestyle market from Condé Nast and Ministry Of Sound’s new title, Trash (see Condé Nast And Ministry Declare Faith In Trash).
