The Weather Channel, the recently launched UK cable and satellite channel *Weather Channel Signs Distribution Deal, has appointed Carlton UK Cable & Satellite Sales as its sales house.
The channel is available nationally to BSkyB subscribers and regionally to cable subscribers on BT Cable, Bell Cablemedia, ComTel, Videotron and Diamond Cable services. Patrick Scott, managing director of the Weather Channel for Europe, said: “Carlton’s creative branding concepts for The Weather Channel coupled with their sales strengths make them uniquely qualified to represent us to advertisers and agencies.”
It has also emerged that the Weather Channel has merged with its Canadian-backed rival The Weather Network, another 24-hour weather channel which launched in the summer. Sources said more cable franchises took the Weather Channel because it launched two weeks before the Network.
