Weather Channel Signs Distribution Deal

24-hour cable channel The Weather Channel has signed its first major distribution deal with a UK cable operator.

The channel, owned by US company Landmark Communications, has secured cable carriage with ComTel which operates across central and southern England in Andover, Oxford, Stafford, Salisbury and Coventry. A pilot service will be launched on ComTel on June 1st to be upgraded in July and followed by the phasing in of the full service from September 1.

The Weather Channel already broadcasts in the US, the Middle East and Africa. Its launch in the UK coincides with that of The Weather Network (Newsline 19/04), another 24-hour weather channel, on June 2nd.
