Web Measurement Comparison Finds Correlation

Despite their differing methodology, a comparison of website audience measurement systems ABCe and Hitwise has revealed that their data correlates.

Simon Chamberlain, general manager of Hitwise UK, said: “The results have been a compelling and consistent validation of the Hitwise methodology and sampling, with an almost exact correlation on both visits and pages between our data and the companies own audited data.”

The comparison was made between data collected for three recruitment websites. Hitwise uses comparative measurement while ABCe uses audited site centric data. The initiative allowed Hitwise to compare its visit and page request data across multiple sites to the audited site centric data over the same period. At present there is no single metrics standard within the market, which means, according to Hitwise, that evidence of correlation such as this could have a “profound correlation for the UK internet market.”
