Website Of The Week – Farmer’s Interactive Weekly

http://www.fwi.co.uk

The beeb brought us “scorewatch”, now strap yourselves in for “blightwatch” from this week’s Website of the Week, Farmers Weekly Interactive.

To gain access to the site one must register with an online form. This is, as usual, a traumatic experience which should only be tackled over coffee. All sites using this technique are as bad, so watch out for this marketing man initiative.

Inside the site, you are greeted by a news headline, which today involved Tesco’s suspension of one of its meat suppliers. There is also a more detailed news section, with which includes sections concerning all aspects of farming such as current EU legal updates, arable and livestock issues etc. There are further areas encompassing the agricultural markets and job vacancies. Some sections require a monthly subscription of £8.

You get the idea, this is a site for farmers and anyone involved in the agriculture industry. As such, it performs its brief well. Whether or not any farmer will bring their laptop into the tractor with them as opposed to the thumbed print copy of this agricultural bible remains to be seen.
