Website Of The Week – Mega Star
Welcome to the world of the Ooh, Aah Newspapaah. The Daily Star launched its Internet version of the newspaper last week after postponment following Diana’s death. Now it is available in all its cheeky glory.
Lifting the no-nonsense, ‘avin’ a laff nature straight from the printed Daily Star, the Mega Star is a bright, fast and fun site to use. It even has a smattering of news. Their headline story is that the Mega Star Website is so successful “even Luvvies at the snooty toff journal New Statesman” had visited it. Another ‘feature’ is the open debate on who should be leader of the Tory party. The competition, apparently, is between William Hague, Homer Simpson, Tony Blair and La La the Teletubbie. This is the sort of stuff to expect. There is also the classic aliens story which this time comes in the form of “Martians who look like Gary Glitter live in a huge underwater base off the holiday island of Majorca, a UFO expert claimed last night.”
There are a few Mega Star features catering for the special interests audience. Cars are covered in Motormouth; Pack Yer Bags is the travel guide that “goes all the way” and there is the VR Pub in which (if you have the right plug-ins) you can navigate your way around a strip-joint in a full three-seedy-dimensions. Pretty heady stuff. All this tarted up with a liberal splash of naked girls and a lot of sport, well, football, and you get the ideaah.
