Website Of The Week – SportsWeb
The new Reuters SportsWeb site is dubbed the first global sports site on the Internet. Drawing on Reuters extensive news-gathering tendrils, SportsWeb does indeed feature a very impressive amount of sporting information across a large number of sports. The homepage currently focuses on the run-up to next year’s World Cup in France but presumably will be updated according to major sporting events.
The rest of the site is easily navigated by clicking on the sport of your choice in the frame on the left to reveal all the latest headlines and statistics. Each of the major sports sections also has a pretty extensive picture gallery of sporting action shots which can easily be used to adorn your desktop as wallpaper. The main sections include material on Soccer, Rugby, Tennis, Motor Sport (including Motor Racing, Rallying and Motor Cycling) and Golf. There are smaller sections on Cycling, Winter Sport, Yatching, Boxing, Swimming, Athletics and Horse Racing. In each case the headlines are very current and the site is visually clear and well-designed; there is nothing particularly fancy here but it is easily navigated and well-coordinated.
The global scope of the site is also evident in the coverage of sports news which is clearly drawn from around the world. There are even regional sports news sections covering Africa & The Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and The Americas. SportsWeb is certainly worth keeping tabs on if whatever sport you’re interested in and should give the Press Association’s Sporting Life (http://www.sporting-life.com/) a run for its money.
