Weekend Today – New Section Review

Weekend Today – New Section Review

Today launched a new Saturday supplement this week, offering the whole paper for the price of 10p for the day. Today on a Saturday now consists of three sections; the main paper, a 7-day TV-guide and the new magazine.

Weekend today is printed on full colour newspaper, tabloid size. Editorially the first issue contains a feature on the suicide of Kurt Cobain, lead singer with Nirvana; a regular “Big Interview”, with Julia Smith, creator of Eastenders; fashion; travel, featuring celebrities’ homes on Majorca; interiors with ideas for new kitchens; cookery and gardening. Of the 32 pages 6 are given to advertising. This is an ad:ed ratio of 19:81.

The quality of the print and photos is poor, much worse than in the main paper resulting in a cheap feel to the magazine.

Advertisers include Abbey National, Benson & Hedges and Napolina Pizza topping.
