Welham Promoted To Top Ad Role At Telegraph Group

The Telegraph Group has promoted Vanessa Welham to agency group head of sales across its portfolio of weekend magazines.

The promotion will see Welham move into the number two advertising sales slot at the group, where she will report directly to magazine ad manager Rachael Drew.

Welham, who was previously magazine development manager, will lead the group’s magazine agency sales efforts. In addition she will develop the Telegraph’s fashion and luxury goods supplements.

She will also work closely with the Telegraph’s commercial development team to attempt to identify wider solutions for advertisers and agencies, using the full variety of Telegraph resources in addition to display page sales.

Welham joined the Telegraph Group in October 2000 from IPC, where she worked at trademark men’s magazine, Loaded.

ABC figures for the six-months ending January 2003 show that the Sunday Telegraph, saw circulation fall by 5.1% year on year to 771,461, down from 812,737 in the same period in 2002.

Analysis of the Sunday Telegraph’s circulation over the past five years, show that the paper is in the midst of a steady decline. Despite staging a brief recovery in 2002, circulation has remained well below the 880,000 level reached in 1997.

Both the Daily and Sunday Telegraph are to undergo a major re-design in the spring, which will be promoted by a national marketing campaign (see Daily and Sunday Telegraph Set For Major Re-Design). It is understood the re-design will bring only subtle changes to the paper’s format, but new columnists are expected to be drafted in.
